Every child is different, and some children are born with ADHD. ADHD can be diagnosed before 6 years of age, and it is important to diagnose this condition as quickly as possible so children can get the treatment they deserve.
Learn more about ADHD during ADHD awareness month 2021. There are several common symptoms in children who are diagnosed with ADHD. A few examples include:
- Children with ADHD may appear to be impulsive, blurting out answers in class before they are called on.
- Some children with ADHD are extremely talkative and can interrupt people in the middle of conversations.
- Kids with ADHD often have a difficult time sitting still, and some children may have a difficult time sitting down at all.
- Children with ADHD may have a difficult time finishing their homework assignments. They may start a bunch of things without finishing them.
- Many parents describe their children with ADHD as being “driven by a motor.”
Even though it is true that children with ADHD may “grow out” of this condition, it is still important to diagnose and treat ADHD as early as possible. Children who have ADHD that do not get proper treatment could have a difficult time learning in school, developing relationships, and might even have a higher risk of suffering a physical injury.
The treatment of ADHD is tailored to the individual needs of every child. The most common treatment for ADHD is a combination of behavioral therapy and medication. It is not unusual to try to treat ADHD with behavioral therapy without medication before adding medication later if required.
Furthermore, parent training can also be helpful for children with ADHD. Parents need to learn how to handle children with ADHD, keeping them on track without being overly harsh. ADHD awareness is critical, and ADHD awareness month is coming up.
